Case Study - Evolution Recruitment LimitedEstablished 10 years ago, Evolution Recruitment is a busy recruitment agency situated in the heart of Battersea on Lavender Hill.
The ProblemAn Evolution member of staff had been entering data onto the main PC used for their temps database when, for no apparent reason, it became inaccessible. As this was a critical computer in the office, Evolution immediately called in an engineer from the company who managed their IT at the time. The engineer declared this to be a "dead PC" and told Evolution that the data was corrupt and unrecoverable. We were called in by Evolution to take a look. We managed to restore the PC to full working order, recovering its lost data.
While we were on site the office manager took the opportunity to ask for some advice about a broadband line which had been installed (on bad advice) for one of their employees to work from home. When we looked at the rates they had been charged for this, we realised that the product their ISP had supplied was incorrect. On behalf of Evolution we spoke to the ISP and recovered almost all the money that had been paid (some £500) on the basis that they had been "mis-sold" the service. We also looked at the broadband charges levied for the office in Lavender Hill. What we discovered was that Evolution were no longer paying a competitive price for their service (which had been in place for some considerable time without any rate reviews). We managed to get an 80% reduction in costs! A change in IT managementWe felt we had more to offer Evolution in terms of their day to day IT management, and we agreed to sit down with them and take a look at their longer-term needs. We came up with a plan to help them achieve their goals. Today we manage their computing on a monthly basis, with a fixed (reduced price) fee. We provide them with remote support and advice, we give them on-site service whenever it is needed, and we keep their computers and peripherals running in tip-top condition. We also do remote backups of their data so that if the day does ever come that a hard drive is "dead" we can swoop in and get things up and running in no time.
